The Climate Finance Capacity Support Programme responds to Pacific country requests for support to accelerate the delivery of their climate change priorities. It does this through a flexible partner-led approach to discover the capacity needs and match the best support to enable each country to deliver its climate change priorities.

The programme works with, and through, Pacific government systems to upskill personnel, fill national resourcing gaps, and provide a range of expertise to build national capacity to deliver these priorities.

Support provided can include:

  • Temporarily supplementing critical staffing gaps that are inhibiting climate action.
  • Access to the Climate Finance Capacity Support Programme Support Unit’s in-house expertise, or connections to other external expertise.
  • Deploying personnel for short or medium-term capacity support in a country.
  • Facilitating access to training, mentoring and other professional development opportunities.

Actions delivered with this support can include:

  • Developing, or updating, national and sector climate change plans – or strengthening the processes behind these.
  • Strengthening public financial management systems to increase readiness to access and manage climate finance.
  • Developing an investment-ready pipeline of projects and strong investment proposals.
  • Improving climate finance monitoring and reporting systems.
  • Accessing climate finance from a broader range of funding providers.
